Glamour’s Tracey Lomrantz & Laurel Pantin for OpenSky!

Happy Wednesday, Readers!! Today we are excited to share our interview with Glamour’s fashion editors Tracey Lomrantz, Contributing Style Editor, and Laurel Pantin, Associate Shopping & Market Editor, about their new line for OpenSky!

First off, if you haven’t heard of OpenSky it is a new and fun way to shop where you can connect to experts (like Tracey and Laurel) to discover unique products they use and handpick themselves. Today Tracey and Laurel are launching their first collection for OpenSky and each week they’ll share a couple easy ways on how you can change up your look with just a few key accessories! We had the chance to ask both Tracey and Laurel a few questions about their new collection and what inspires them most!

Could you tell us a bit about your Neon & Neutral and Neo-Western collections?

Tracey: Neon has been everywhere this summer, but the idea of pairing it with neutrals is a chic progression of the trend for fall. It also takes the intimidation factor out of the equation and tones down whoa-bright colors to seem much more sophisticated. With our debut collection for Open Sky, we culled together really chic items that let you test out the trend without a major commitment—accessories are the easiest, most affordable way to do it.

Laurel: My launch collection is western inspired—as a native Texan, this is something I never thought I would get behind. But in its new incarnation, the western look is cool, tomboyish, but super sexy in a tough-girl way. It’s also not a look that’s terribly obvious, which I love. There’s something vaguely French about it in the sense that it’s effortless and cool—something that a really independent, strong-minded tough girl would wear.

Describe your personal style.

Tracey: My personal style is a really eclectic mix of feminine and masculine. I’ve been known to shop in the boys’ department for things like tailored blazers and classic boat shoes, but I’m also the biggest hot pink fan you’ll ever meet. With all due respect to Coco Chanel, I don’t believe there’s such a thing as too many accessories—I live for costume jewelry, and I like to wear as much of it as once as I can—and I always like to throw on one thing that makes my outfit look not-too-perfect.

How does your own style influence the collection?

Laurel: Given that I am so practical and such a tomboy, as I picked my items I would ask myself ‘How many ways could I wear this? Is it going to be comfortable? Would I actually wear it?’ I tried not to pick too many things based solely on my personal style and what I’d most want to wear, because instead I wanted to have a collection of items that anyone could wear, but that I also love. I have my personal favorites from each collection, but I didn’t want to use this opportunity to try and push my personal style on everyone else. I think that’s the tough thing about being an editor—using your taste to pick items you think are beautiful, but that might not actually work on you.

What are your favorite trends for the fall season?

Tracey: I’m loving the evolution of neon with neutrals this season, obviously! I also think every woman needs to own at least one item in oxblood—I’m partial to the double-breasted coat from Alexander Wang—and am obsessed with printed pumps.

Laurel: I’m really excited to wear monochrome outfits. I love the idea of wearing the same color from head to toe, especially white, burgundy, and green. I’m also really into leather accents. I’m currently on the hunt for the perfect pair of leather leggings.

What is a must-have you recommend for this upcoming season?

Tracey: A cross-body bag in an unexpected color. We’ve seen so many seasons of black satchels and hobo bags, a little bright handbag looks so refreshing right now. And don’t be afraid of clashing—pretend your bright blue bag is a neutral and wear it with anything!

Laurel: I’m embarrassingly practical, so my first thought was ‘a warm jacket!’ So boring. Beyond the basics, I think incorporating burgundy accents into your existing wardrobe will be key. Burgundy was such a hot color, so we’d all do well to pick up a few pieces this season!

If you would have to choose just one item from the collection which one would it be?

Laurel: If I’m picking just from my first collection, I’d have to say the cuff. I’m obsessed with it! If we’re talking all of them…too many to choose!
