If you’ve ever been to the South of France, you know it’s a magical place!

Last month my boyfriend and I spent 12 days visiting Saint Tropez, Antibes, Eze, Monaco, Provence and Paris! In case you missed it, I kicked off my travel series with our Saint Tropez travel guide.

Today I’m so excited to share with you guys our itinerary from the second part of our South of France visit. I did SO much research in prepping for our trip (insert my killer and somewhat obsessive South of France Google map). I was honestly so frustrated I couldn’t find an itinerary I wanted to copy so today I hopefully can help you with planning your first (or next) visit to the South of France!

We ended up utilizing a mix of personal friend recommendations with recommendations we found online via The New York Times, Conde Nast Traveler and Fodor. Honestly, there are so many ways one could visit the South of France but here’s what we ended up doing for the first time around!

Read on for our must-visit stops!

Processed with VSCO with e2 preset

As I mentioned in my Saint Tropez travel guide, there is no train station located in Saint Tropez. We planned to go from Saint Tropez to Antibes on a Tuesday, a major market day in Saint Tropez. Luckily traveling out of the city on a Tuesday is much better vs. driving in to Saint Tropez on a Tuesday! We had our hotel in Saint Tropez set up a car service to drive us to our next destination the The Royal Antibes Hotel, a 4-star property located right on the water with amazing views of the Mediterranean. Yes, please!

Where We Stayed

I discovered the Royal Antibes Hotel through one of my girlfriends who had previously planned a trip to the South of France. I had such a hard time finding a hotel where we wanted to stay during this leg of the trip. I kept debating on staying in Nice or Cannes.

If you’ve ever researched the South of France, you’ll probably discover that many people recommend hotel hopping on the coast in order to see the different towns. For us, it was more important to have one consistent home base and sprinkle in day trips throughout our stay. This was probably one of the best decisions we made! Traveling for 12 days gets exhausting so however much we can limit the various hotels/destinations we realized was the best way to travel.

The Royal Antibes ended up working out great for us. The hotel had a delicious breakfast each morning, a gym that we used (more than once, might I add to work off all of that cheese and wine!) and a beautiful spa with amazing Cinq Mondes skincare products. I’m officially hooked on this french skincare brand now! You have to try this peeling mask or this youth serum!

Processed with VSCO with e2 preset

As soon as we arrived to the hotel on Tuesday, we grabbed a drink on their beach deck overlooking the public beach in Antibes. There were a few nights in Antibes where we didn’t have a dinner reservation which was mistake #1. The month of August in the South of France is a peak travel season. So we learned very quickly we needed to have a dinner reservation every night if we wanted to eat delicious meals!

Luckily the concierge at the Royal Antibes saved us! The concierge helped us with two different dinner reservations during our time in Antibes. All in all, I would HIGHLY recommend the Royal Antibes hotel for your first or next visit to the South of France! Check out below our 3-day itinerary.

South of France Itinerary

Day One

Day One 12:00pm: Check in to the Royal Antibes hotel. Check in isn’t until 4 but there is plenty to do in town! Walk to the Old Town of Antibes, visit the Picasso Museum and grab gelato at Gelateria Del Porto.

4:00pm: Walk back to the Royal Antibes and grab a drink on the water.

7:00pm: Walk back into to town to grab pizza at Le Chrono.

Day Two

9:00am: Grab breakfast at the hotel and order a taxi to the Antibes train station. Ubers are also readily available in the South of France which is so convenient!

10:30am: Catch the train to the village of Eze. It only takes about 40 minutes to travel from the Antibes to the Eze-Sur-Mer train station. If you prefer to rent a car, that is also an option. The only caveat is that you will have to find parking!

11:30am: Arrive at the Eze train station and call for a taxi. As soon as you walk up the steps from the train station, there is a taxi stand. If there’s not a taxi waiting, you can call the number on the sign to order one. It costs 45 euros to go up to the village of Eze – crazy, right?! The cab can only go so far up the hill so be prepare to walk up the steps to the village.

The village of Eze is famous worldwide for their view of the Mediterranean sea from the hilltop. It honestly was one of the best views we had during our entire trip.

12:30pm: Grab lunch at Chateau Eza – must make reservation ahead of time and ask for a water views!

Our views from lunch at Chateau Eza!

2:00pm: Order taxi to Monaco. We originally thought we would take the train from Eze to Monaco but our taxi driver who was taking us down the hill mentioned that for only 5 euros more, he could drive us directly to Monte Carlo! Done and done.

2:15pm: Arrive at the infamous casino in Monte Carlo. If Monaco is on your list, visiting the Casino is one of the main activities to do during your visit! It costs $20 euros per person to enter the casino but worth the visit if you’re intrigued! The inside of the casino is gorgeous, we grabbed a drink at the bar and spent about an hour at the casino.

3:00pm: Walk around the port of Monte Carlo to see all of the amazing yachts. Grab coffee at Hotel de Paris.

4:00pm: Train back to Antibes

5:00pm: Hang back at the hotel and relax.

8:00pm: Grab dinner back at the hotel – must order the pasta with clams!

Processed with VSCO with e4 preset

Day Three

9:00am: Grab breakfast at the hotel and order an uber over to the Hotel Belle Rives, located on the coast of the Juan-les-Pins. You must call ahead to make a reservation for the day beds on their pier! You also should request where you would like to sit on their beach.

12:00pm: Head to the infamous Hotel Cap de Eden Roc for lunch. This was such a bucket list item for me! The views are incredible and the food was amazing! Order the lobster roll and cobb salad.

3:00pm: Head back to Hotel Belle Rives to finis the afternoon soaking in the sun.

6:00pm: Head back to the Royal Antibes to relax and get ready for dinner.

8:00pm: Grab dinner in town at Michaelangelos, a celeb hot spot during the Cannes film festival! Must make reservation ahead of time.

Day Four

9:00am: Catch train to Avignon, France! More to come on this next week…

Notes + My South of France Map

The best thing about the South of France (and France in general) is that you can really spend one full day exploring the different towns and villages. Your ideal itinerary can certainly vary based on your priorities. For us, we wanted a vacation that was ultimately relaxing. We didn’t want to jam too much in to one trip so we didn’t end up going to Nice or Cannes! I originally had us scheduled to squeeze in Cannes after lunch at Hotel Cap Eden Roc. Since it was our last day on the coast before heading to Provence, we preferred spending it at the beach vs. in a major tourist area. I’m sure we will add it to our next itinerary!  We seriously can’t wait for our next trip back to continue exploring the beautiful Cote de Azur.

Whenever I plan a trip, I create a map in Google maps. It’s honestly one of the best ways I learn about the area from hotels to restaurants to museums. I created a KILLER South of France map that you guys can access right here! We of course didn’t visit every hotel or restaurant starred on the map but it’s a great starting point if you’re looking to plan a trip. All of these starred locations are ones friends referred or I found during my research.

I would love to hear what you think or if you use it on your next trip! Send me a note at lauren@lauren-nelson.com and happy to help with any trip planning questions! Xo. Lauren

I seriously cannot wait to own my very own beach house one day! Who’s with me?

Brooklyn based design firm Chango and Co. recently released images from their latest beach-front project over on Domino last week and I had to share! Located right on the water, this big, beautiful beach house is certainly one for the design files.

Chango and Co. has seriously been one of my favorite design firms to follow this year. In case you aren’t already, you can follow Chango and Co. on Instagram right here. I love how they create clean and crisp interiors that are 100% swoon worthy.

With a clean white color palette, plenty of natural textures and blue and white accents, I’m seriously obsessed with this home! As a result, I created not one, not two but THREE different “Get The Look” collages so you guys can easily replicate three different rooms throughout this home tour!

Can you tell I have a thing for beach houses?

Beachy-House-Chango-And-Co

What I’ve learned from following some of my favorite design firms who are based on the East Coast is to always incorporate natural wood. It’s a sure-fire way to help you achieve that “Hamptons” beach aesthetic. Whether you live in the city or in a suburb, incorporating natural wood pieces is such an easy and quite affordable way to help you achieve the look and feel of a beach house.

From natural wood serving bowls to natural wood end tables, I’ve bought so many different natural wood pieces this year for my Upper East Side apartment it might now actually be a problem. I love this serving bowl and this coffee table both from McGee and Co.

Another key component to getting the “beach house” look is incorporating sisal or natural fiber rugs throughout each and every room. Sisal rugs are a bit rougher on your feet but are great for ware and tear (beach house approved) and are 100% worth the investment.

I bought this Color-Bound Natural Sisal Rug from Pottery Barn for my living room. You can actually purchase an 8×10 for $335 dollars! Plus if you time it right with one of Pottery Barn’s sales, you can most likely get it even cheaper! Layer a blue and white striped rug on top of the sisal rug to help you replicate the living room above. Pssst… Serena and Lily and Annie Selke are my go-to’s for blue and white striped rugs if you are in the market!

“With beach houses, we draw much of the inspiration from the surrounding landscape—cool blues, soft sandy neutrals, natural textures, etc. We also wanted this space to be a true reflection of the client’s personality so, her fun-loving, casual demeanor was a huge inspiration for the finished space.” – Susana Simonpietri, Creative Director to Domino Magazine

Natural-Wood-Kicthen-Dinning-Table-Modern-Dinning-Chairs

From the massive windows to the over-sized matching pendants, I love how clean and simple this dinning room is! Plus you can easily get the look. Here Chango and Co paired a long natural wood table with the infamous Hans Wagner wishbone chairs.  These modern chairs can cost anywhere between $595-$1000+ per chair. Yikes!

Because I can’t afford an original, I bought a knock-off version off of Amazon to use as my desk chair in my last apartment. Even I was surprised with how good a knock off could look! Wayfair also has a selection of more affordable options. You can shop the products below by clicking on the black and white plus signs next to each image or scroll through the shopping widget below.

Oh my gosh, you guys. Can we please talk about this guest bedroom for a second? I am a huge fan of the blue bed layered with the bright cobalt blue striped duvet + the red pinstriped sheets. After browsing online I found a blue bed that’s not exactly the same as featured above but certainly very cute on Serena and Lily. This blue and white striped throw is on point and the surfboard wallpaper is amazing!! I found a similar version of the wallpaper on Studio Four, a textile and design studio/showroom here in New York. I can’t believe how warm it’s been in New York this week! I don’t know about you but I am so excited for cooler temperatures.

There’s something about shopping for fall clothes that gets me so excited. Did you see my September wish list earlier this week? I literally want everrryyything from Tuckernuck this season. I also rounded up some great blazers last week, too!

I haven’t replenished my fall coats in a few years so I am on a mission to find some new light weight coats. New York weather can be a bit unpredictable so having a variety of fall coats to chose from is essential for living and working in the city.

Keep reading for some of my favorite fall coats I’ve added to my wish list..

Whenever I’m shopping for coats, I try to look for pieces that I can wear easily from work to happy hour. I love making more of a statement with coats (any time of year, really) incorporating colors or patterns.

This plaid topper coat from Topshop is at the top of my list. It would look great paired with ripped denim or black pants. Plus it’s only $101 dollars! I’m a firm believer that a girl should have at least one trench coat in her closet.

This Faux Leather Trim Trench from Nordstrom is super cute and under $200 dollars. I’m still wearing a trench coat from Banana Republic I got in 2011!

Does anyone else have a thing for military coats? I’m obsessed with this navy wool-blend coat and can we talk about the gold buttons for a second?! Done.

Last but not least, a military green jacket for fall is a must. This one from Madewell is super cute and definitely on my wish list for fall.

What are some of your favorite coat styles for this time of year? Xo. Lauren

With how much traveling we did this summer, I completely forgot to share with you guys details from my 30th birthday party! I still cannot believe I’m 30. I moved to Chicago at 22 and to New York at 25 which still feels like yesterday!! I have to admit that with each passing year, life continues to get better!

I know some people don’t love their birthdays but I’m definitely not one of them. I love birthdays. I always think it’s so fun to bring together my favorite people and throw a party. What’s so wrong with that?!

Earlier in the year my family and I were discussing what we wanted to do for my big 3-0. We were going back and forth on whether or not we wanted to do something in NYC or not. Well, if you’ve ever thrown a party in New York it is not cheap! Especially if you’re having more than 50 guests. After comparing costs, we ultimately decided to have a party at my parents Yacht Club where I basically grew up. Located right on the water 40 minutes east of Cleveland, the view from Mentor Harbor Yacht Club is truly one of the best from where I am from. I also had my high school graduation there so it made sense to have my party there!

After finalizing the venue, the next item on my to-do list was to get invitations out as soon as possible. I was so so excited when the Papyrus team wanted to partner together on my invitations! Did you know that Papyrus can create custom invitations for your next bash? I honestly had no idea before we started chatting but was so excited when I found out this was a possibility!

Papyrus has been my go-to for cards for my family and friends for years!!! Whether I need a card for my mom’s birthday or for a girlfriend’s baby shower, Papryus’ selection is truly the best and has the most chic selection!.

Papyrus-Invites
I met with their lead designer here in New York to talk custom invitations. I’ve never created a custom invitation before so it was a whole new process to me. The lead designer walked me through step by step and made the design process so seamless. The options are endless when it comes to creating custom invitations! From the weight of the paper to the hundreds of fonts to choose from, it was so fun finalizing all of the small details.

What I loved most about working with the Papyrus team is that the lead designer nailed my aesthetic. She came up with two different designs based on the feedback I gave her on other examples and it truly was SO hard to decide! I absolutely loved the little sail boats she incorporated at the top of the card (notice the theme, here?!) as well as the blue and white stripe design within the envelope. So cute, right?!

Overall we had an amazing party!!! I had friends fly or drive in from all over the country and of course, the party wouldn’t be the same without my big Italian family! We had a pasta bar, of course. P.s. if you live in the Cleveland area and are looking for a venue, I would highly recommend the Mentor Harbor Yacht Club. The service is incredible!

A huge, huge thank you to Papyrus for teaming up with me to create my custom invitations. I always think the invitation sets the tone of a party! You can check out Papyrus’ design services right here.

I hope everyone has a great rest of their week! Xo. Lauren

Raise your hand if you like polo!

Last weekend I attended the first ever Ocean House Beach Polo Classic with Amy and Mackenzie! We had so much road tripping to Westerly, Rhode Island. Located 45 minutes outside of Newport, Ocean House is one of my absolute favorite hotels in the US (also a Ralais & Chateaux)!

Famously known for its stunning views of the Atlantic, the hotel gained prominence back in the late 1800’s just after the Civil War. Since then, the Ocean House has been a quintessential summer home for families since the 1900’s. Let’s just say, I completely understand why guests have been visiting the Ocean House for over 100 years!

The polo match took place right on the beach with the ocean as the most beautiful back drop! It was a bit hard for the horses to run but it was so fun to watch both the Harvard and Yale polo teams play.

We spent most of our time in the Lilly Pulitzer cabana. I was between this Sophie dress or this Tanya romper but ended up wearing the romper! It was so comfortable and I got so many compliments! Mackenzie wore the cutest navy dress and Amy wore a colorful dress with little pom poms! Both are on my Lilly wish list. I’ve rounded up a few of my favorite new arrivals you can shop on LillyPulitzer.com.

Hope everyone is having a great week! Xo. Lauren

Good morning! Can you guys believe we’re halfway through September? In case you missed it last week, I shared a few blazers that would help amp your fall style. September can be a challenging month because it’s such a transition month. This week, for example, we are still experiencing temperatures in the 80’s here in New York! So I’ve been sticking to dresses with sweaters or jeans with light blouses (how cute is this one?).

I know these warm temperatures won’t last for much longer so my September wish list includes some pieces that you can wear all fall.

This black off-the-shoulder sweater paired with these statement earrings and high waisted jeans would make such a cute transition look. I also love the classic tuxedo blazer paired with a white button up and high waisted jeans for a more polished transition work outfit.

Investing in a Barbour jacket is one of my top style tips for fall! Not only do they look cute with pretty much everything, a Barbour jacket is a piece you can wear year after year. Nordstrom also has a great selection.

Barbour Wax Jacket ($379)
Linen Tux Jacket ($279)
White Button Up Shirt ($58)
Blaire Skinny Jeans ($179)
Crocodile Belt ($120)
Diptyque Candle ($64)
Leopard Clutch (150)

So I recently stumbled across Annie from @zevyjoy's instagram account and am obsessed! How good is this chair though?

TGIF, friends! We made it. Did anyone else find it hard coming back to work after a long holiday weekend? This week was especially challenging given that it was my first “full” week of work after France, too. Luckily I was able to get so many blog posts up for you guys this week! I linked them all below so you can easily find them.  It feels so good to get back to blogging.

Anywaysss, I’m quite excited for this weekend as I’m headed to Newport, Rhode Island for the Lilly Pulitzer polo match with Amy and Kenz! Be sure to follow a long on instagram as I’ll be snapping away!

Today I’m sharing a few of my favorite links from around the web – there are some good ones!

I hope everyone has a great weekend full of rest and relaxation! Xo. Lauren
